Empangan Temenggor

The Temenggor Dam is a major hydroelectric dam in Gerik, Perak State, built upstream of the Perak River. It is located across the Perak River approximately 200 km northeast of Ipoh. This dam was built in an area that used to be a Malay state known as Reman state, which was ceded by the British and Thailand to the state of Perak through the Treaty of 1909. This construction created a large lake known as Tasik Temenggor. The island in the middle of the lake is known as Pulau Banding. It is believed that the lake created as a result of this dam drowned the construction of the ancient Malay kingdom that was in the Belum forest thousands of years ago. This dam was completed in 1979.
